Blackboard Collaborate Ultra Available for Spring 2017

Release Date: Wednesday, Jan 11, 2017

Instructional Technology Services is pleased to announce the university-wide availability of Blackboard Collaborate Ultra for spring 2017. Collaborate Ultra is the latest version of Blackboard's webconferencing system that integrates seamlessly with eCampus. The Ultra version replaces the previous "Classic" version of Collaborate.

Collaborate Ultra features simple, intuitive deployment with nothing additional to install, so participants can get connected quickly. It also delivers high-quality HD audio and video along with a thoroughly redesigned and streamlined user interface with an optional "follow the speaker" layout. Use Collaborate Ultra to deliver presentations, moderate breakout groups and chat, share applications, and record meetings for later viewing.

The Classic version of Collaborate will no longer be available in eCampus courses. Please contact ITS if you plan to have sessions with more than 250 users since this is the current participant limit for sessions in the Ultra version. In addition, the eCampus Collaboration course tool will be disabled this spring semester since modern browsers and Blackboard are both deprecating many Java-based tools.

Video overviews about Collaborate Ultra are available from Blackboard on YouTube. Explore the user interface, best practices for online collaboration, and features like breakout groups, polling, and closed captioning.

Sign up for no-cost training at http://its.tamu.edu/training to attend a scheduled webinar this spring. Learn how to set up and join a Collaborate Ultra session as both a moderator and a participant, use different areas and tools of the new interface, and evaluate different recording options.
